About Bennett Galef

Dr. Galef, who retired in 2005, is a Fellow of  the Canadian and American Psychological Associations, the American Psychological Society, Animal Behavior Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and Royal Society of Canada.  He was President of the Animal Behavior Society, member of the Boards of Directors of the International Society for  Developmental Psychobiology,  Animal Behavior Society and  McMaster Museum of Art, and is co-founder, and was, for 8 years, co-organizer of the Winter Animal Behavior Conferences.

Dr. Galef has served on the editorial boards of 13 journals including Animal Behaviour of which he was Executive Editor from 1998 to 2001. He has co-edited four books (Social Learning in Animals: the Roots of Culture, Social Learning: Psychological and Biological Perspectives, The Question of Animal Culture, and Behavioral Aspects of Feeding) and four special issues of journals and is the author of more than 300 published papers. 

Dr. Galef has been a Visiting Professor in Panama, Israel, Italy, Australia and the United States and is currently Emeritus Professor of Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
